Betting on the Oscars: Now you can do it in New Jersey

Las Vegas – Maybe you weren’t convinced — or didn’t care — if Gisele Bundchen’s husband and the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl this month. But you know why”The Favourite” is a favorite to win an Oscar for best costume design, and you’re eager to bet Lady Gaga snagging some hardware to get her performance in”A Star is Born.”
But for the first time in the U.S., you can legally bet on a single pop culture’s most significant events.
New Jersey is the nation’s first nation to allow sportsbooks to accept wagers on the Oscars, following a frequent practice in Europe and providing American enthusiasts another alternative besides informal pools.
Casinos view it as a way to attract more clients to the sportsbook, even with restricted bets.
“We have clients who aren’t huge sports fans but love playing games such as bingo or roulette with us,” said Mattias Stetz, chief operating officer of Rush Street Interactive, which functions PlaySugarHouse.com in New Jersey. “We believe a new audience could be lovers of the Oscars and want to create their viewing experience much more exciting by placing a wager on their favourite movie.”
