This week, the NFL returns and it’s a year for the league, with the 50th of this age along with also this its 100th time.
It seemed fitting that Super Bowl 53 has been a battle between experience and youth, with the NFL sitting around the cusp of a new dawn.
On a record-breaking nighttime in Atlanta, the New England Patriots overcame the Los Angeles Rams for being considered as the Goat of the NFL to strengthen the case of Tom Brady.
The league is teeming with fascinating young quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and newcomer Kyler Murray prepared to have the guard.
There were also a range of big-name moves in the off-season, together with the Cleveland Browns pulling an adventurous deal to sign arguably the game’s biggest celebrity, Odell Beckham Jr..
They’re all hoping to make it and here’s six reasons.
In his second season in the NFL – and his first as a beginner – the league at 2018 lit up.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been the league’s highest scorers, averaging 35.3 points a match, and it was largely down to Mahomes’ arm – or arms. In one match he switched the ball to his left hand and threw under tension for a down. In the next he delivered a perfect no-look pass.
The 23-year-old became just the third player to throw 50 touchdown passes in a season, after Brady and Peyton Manning, which earned him the Most Valuable Player award of the NFL.
Mahomes is being tipped to direct the Chiefs all the way this year, although brady’s Patriots denied them a trip to the Super Bowl, in the AFC Championship game with an overtime win.
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots – over head trainer or every other player ever.
Yet as Brady enters his 20th season, he is seeking to enhance. From the off-season he said he’d been working on adding no-look and left-handed moves to his or her thing.
Joking aside, the 42-year-old quarterback must discover a means to make do Rob Gronkowski, without his guy. Brady has thrown more touchdown passes to’Gronk’ than any Patriot.
Even the tight-end retired after assisting the Pats win their third Super Bowl and, at 30, he might return. In any event, the Patriots have demonstrated again and again they could rebuild their roster, adapt their gameplan and somehow find a way.
The Patriots are now tied together with the Pittsburgh Steelers for Super Bowl wins. Write a title at your own peril off.
Footwork, grabs that are magnificent, the showbiz lifestyle – Odell Beckham Jr appeared a perfect fit for New York.
Yet despite a strained relationship with the Giants he was amazed to hear he was getting traded to the Cleveland Browns – a facet that won only one game across the 2017 and 2016 seasons.
“This was private,” the star wide receiver told Sports Illustrated. “They sent me here to die”
But Beckham was inspired by basketball superstar LeBron James, that helped turn the Cleveland Cavaliers into account contenders. Before signing James, the Cavs had never reached the NBA Finals. The Browns are to achieve Super Bowl.
“That’s my idol,” said Beckham. “To find out what he did to bring a championship , I only wish to do exactly the exact same thing.”
And there’s real hope he could do that as he joins up with his very best friend from school Jarvis Landry, along with Baker Mayfield, who withdrew in 2018 for 27 touchdowns – a record for a rookie cop. Scottish rookie Jamie Gillan will be there having earned the task because the Browns’ punter.
Mayfield has been the number one pick of the 2018 draft and prior faculty team-mate Kyler Murray made the honor when he had been selected by the Arizona Cardinals.
Before committing to a career in the NFL, the 22-year-old became the first man to be chosen in the first round of the NFL and Major League Baseball drafts.
He is another of the new breed of mobile quarterback, who can attack on the ground and through the air, and has been likened to Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson because of his playing style and comparatively compact stature.
The Cards exchanged 2018 draft pick Josh Rosen to make way for Murray, providing him the chance to set up himself. They expect he adapts into the league as quickly as Mahomes and Mayfield.
The off-season has seen so many big names move on, together with the Pittsburgh Steelers dropping two thirds of the crime of their Killer B.
Operating back Le’Veon Bell has joined the New York Jets while wide receiver Antonio Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders after hanging out the 2018 season over a contract dispute.
Together with all the Baltimore Ravens trading Joe Flacco to Nick Foles and the Denver Broncos leaving the Philadelphia Eagles for the Jacksonville Jaguars two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks have found a home.
Andrew Luck has left the league altogether. His retirement was announced by the Indianapolis Colts quarterback two weeks ago, following a spate of accidents, in age 29.
The London program is back up to four fixtures in 2019, together with two taking place at Tottenham’s new stadium after three matches were played at Wembley this past year.
The Premier League club agreed a 10-year deal with the NFL to sponsor at least two games a season, beginning with a mouthwatering match-up between the Chicago Bears and the Oakland Raiders on 6 October.
Super Bowl runners-up that the LA Rams are coming into London, with both the Wembley matches to be shown live on BBC One.
