A row has sparked on interpersonal media involving Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer along with the former England striker.
One of the more cutting outlines from the book includes Owen’s claim that his transfer from Real Madrid into the Magpies at 2005 was a”down measure” and the one move he”really regrets”.
The pair exchanged barbed tweets as the story broke on Tuesday – but what’s the backdrop of the feud?
In Reboot – My LifeMy Time, which has been serialised in the Daily Mirror, Owen goes into detail about his relationship with Newcastle’s fans during an injury-hit bout with the club, which ended with him joining Manchester United after the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship in 2009.
“I must have followed my gut instincts, I didn’t need to go there – my heart was set to a return to Liverpool,” said Owen – who had left Anfield for Real in 2004 – of his go into St James’ Park.
Even the 39-year-old former England captain also claimed Newcastle were”just a big club in the sense that it has plenty of fans and a significant arena”. Ouch.

Newcastle’s relegation at 2009 seems to be the catalyst to get the strained relationship of the pair, according to Owen’s publication.
Shearer was manager at the time also, going into the season’s last day, the Magpies had a draw at Aston Villa or their spell in the Premier League would return to a conclusion.

Owen asserts he had a text conversation with Shearer after this tweet where he provided an explanation after Shearer had stated Newcastle fans will be”unimpressed to hear he didn’t enjoy playing with there”.
“It wentas I suspected, just nowhere,” he further added.
As the spat continuing, gary Lineker, that hosts Match of the Day together with Shearer as well as working on BT Sport, later acted as peacemaker.
“There seems to be a little history here? I like you so do not need to pick sides,” that he tweeted.
