England head coach Phil Neville says Lucy Bronze will last in her role that is midfield and has likened her.
The Lionesses face Norway in a friendly on Tuesday having defeated them 3-0 at the World Cup quarter-finals in July.
Neville states right-back Bronze, 27, is a”risk” worth carrying in midfield, having also played in the 3-3 draw with Belgium on Thursday.
“There’ll be times she performs right-back,” Neville told BBC Sport.
“But we’ve got a two-year period today where playing Lucy at midfield might be among those risks we take, where we may need to suffer and that suffering and risk taking get us where we would like to reach, as a better group.
“Pep Guardiola did it with Philip Lahm [at Bayern Munich], and he was voted one of the greatest right-backs but he set him into midfield.”
Neville stated that Bronze, who obtained the Player of the Year the identical night of Uefa and was appointed as a finalist in the Fifa Football Awards, could play against Norway.
He needs her to become more consistent with first played the Lyon full-back there in the SheBelieves Cup, that England won in March.
The move into midfield of bronze comes at time when Arsenal’s Jordan Nobbs and Lyon’s Izzy Christiansen are recovering from injury while Manchester City midfielder Jill Scott was rested.
“We have to have a vision where we now have the best possible staff,” Neville told BBC Sport’s Jo Currie.
“People will ask why we’re doing it, she’s the ideal right-back from the world, but if you are courageous enough to take the risk and possess buy from the participant it may be prosperous.
“She fits the profile and that I wouldn’t get it done if I didn’t get buy from the player.”
Bronze has confessed she feels”uncomfortable” in midfield, but is happy to embrace the shift.
“I’m in my comfort zone in full-back, definitely,” she explained. “Without being told what to do I just know where to proceed.
“However, I really like a challenge. In midfield I’m uncomfortable. It may not work – I might be terrible in midfield – but it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
Neville explained that the attraction Belgium has been a”wake-up telephone” and he expected another physical test against Norway, who are ranked 12th in the world, seven places below England.
Reflecting on the 3-0 win over the sidehe said it had been among the highlights of the World Cup, until the USA beat the Lionesses 2-1 in the previous four.
“We do not want to feel just like we did against the USA, that’s three semi-finals where were have endured that atmosphere and we’re sick of it,” he said.
“To change this momentumwe will need to do things a bit differently, take individuals, myself, the squad along with the staff from the comfort zones and we’ve done this on this excursion.”
Neville, that has been named among the coaches of the year, stated it was a proud moment and was a reward because of his team’s progress.
“I shouldn’t win the award, United States coach Jill Ellis needs to, she has won the World Cup,” he explained.
“But it’s reward for its manner of football we’ve played, the targets we’ve scored as well as the players’ performances.
“I prefer to win at the World Cup or Olympic gold medal, however, it shows we are going in right way and that I thank my son for wasting money for me all the time.”
