The Chicago Cubs keep their road trip in Pittsburgh from the Pirates this weekend. It has been matter how abysmal they’ve been on the road in 2019 and that has been the recurring theme for them in Philadelphia from the Phillies. The Cubs were trapped at a three-game series, concluding with a walk-off grand hit by Bryce Harper on Thursday night.
Pedro Strop obtained his team to trouble , as he allowed two earned runs with no outs and Derek Holland followed his guide to finish the match off with an at-bat contrary to Harper. For those issues he’s had striking out at the plate,” Harper’s WPA trails only Christian Yelich of the Brewers. That number higher was propelled by his slam.
For the Cubs, their crime had a hangover contrary to the Pirates last night, even since they generated nothing against Joe Musgrove before becoming to him at the 8th inning by putting a runner on 3rd with 1 out. The performance with Kyle Hendricks was a welcome signal, as was the effort of Yu Darvish on Thursday night. It’s a hard bullet to consider after you get production out of Darvish and Hendricks then get nothing in return, however charge to Hendricks for keeping the Cubs in the sport a night ago.
He also gets the match ball for storing them in the game to give Tony Kemp an opportunity for a go-ahead triple. Trusting the Cubs’ bullpen to shut out the game from the 9th was a little too much to ask, though. Jon Lester will get the call for the Cubs on Saturday at PNC Park.
Lester was desperate to get a bounce back performance in his last outing, and he was not perfect, but was considerably better than he was previously pitching. The optimism in his step seemed to be backagain. Conversely, the continuous Steven Brault will counter for the Pirates. The Pirates will likely soon be seeking only their fourth win since August 3rd, as they have gone 3-9 in their previous 12 outings. Among those wins came on a walk. Steven Brault has ever had a standout career within his four-year career, but he’s at least been consistently average. Brault has a career ERA of 4.57 and he’s hovered around that mark pretty well his entire career in the significant leagues. He’s on pace to get a career-high having an ERA of 4.33 going into Saturday. In his previous three outings, Brault posted a 4.50 ERA in 14 innings pitched. He has not overly high or too low during his profession.
Consistency like that can make a pitcher a great deal of cash for a middle of the rotation choice. He is coming off what could have been a much better performance against the Cardinals. Brault allowed 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work, with surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks also.
The Cubs have destroyed Brault in his profession. They’re hitting .343 with a .452 OBP at 102 at-bats from Brault. The Cubs also have scored 24 runs on Brault in that span. If they’re successful against Brault at the plate , they may not need to worry about the bullpen blowing a lead.
Lester has allowed 23 runs to the Pirates, but using much more plate appearances than the Cubs have experienced against Brault. The Bucs are hitting against .255 from Lester in 231 at-bats. They’re hitting just .242 against lefties about the season as opposed to .269 versus right-handed pitching.
The Cubs input Saturday on a four-game losing streak with losses in six of the past seven matches, all which have come to the road. How much more pathetic can it get for the Cubs? I think they find it in themselves to prevent more embarrassment and prevent collapsing on Saturday supporting Lester. The Cubs probably return on course for its moment at Pittsburgh in this one.
