Cubs vs. Pirates MLB Pick – August 17th

The Chicago Cubs keep their road trip in Pittsburgh from the Pirates this weekend. It has been matter how abysmal they have been on the street in 2019 and that was the recurring theme for them in Philadelphia from the Phillies. The Cubs were swept at a three-game series, concluding with a walk-off grand slam by Bryce Harper on Thursday night.
Pedro Strop got his staff into trouble back, as he allowed 2 earned runs with no outs and Derek Holland followed his guide to finish the game away with an at-bat contrary to Harper. For the issues he has had striking out in the plate, Harper’s WPA trails only Christian Yelich of their Brewers. That amount was propelled by his walk-off slam.
For the Cubs, their crime had a hangover against the Pirates last night, as they generated nothing against Joe Musgrove before becoming to him at the 8th inning by placing a runner on 3rd with 1 out. The operation by Kyle Hendricks was a welcome signal, as was the effort of Yu Darvish on Thursday night. It’s a difficult bullet to take if you get production from Darvish and Hendricks subsequently have nothing in return, but charge to Hendricks for keeping the Cubs in the match a night ago.
He gets the match ball for storing them in the game to provide Tony Kemp an opportunity for a go-ahead triple. Expecting the Cubs’ bullpen to close the game out in the 9th was somewhat too much to ask, though. Jon Lester will Find the call to your Cubs on Saturday in PNC Park.
Lester was desperate to get a bounce back performance in his final outing, and he wasn’t perfect, but was considerably better than he was previously pitching. The optimism in his step seemed to be back. Conversely, the continuous Steven Brault will counter for the Pirates. The Pirates will likely be hunting just their fourth win since August 3rd, since they’ve gone 3-9 within their past 12 outings. Among those wins came on a walk. Steven Brault has ever had a standout career within his four-year profession, but he has at least been consistently average. Brault has a career ERA of 4.57 and he is hovered around that mark fairly well his entire career in the major leagues. He is on pace to get a career-high having an ERA of 4.33 going into Saturday. In his previous three outings, Brault published a 4.50 ERA in 14 innings pitched. He has not overly large or too low throughout his profession.
Consistency like this can produce a pitcher a great deal of money for a centre of the rotation option. He is coming off what might have been a much better performance against the Cardinals. Brault allowed 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work, with surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks also.
The Cubs have ruined Brault in his career. They’re hitting .343 using a .452 OBP at 102 at-bats from Brault. The Cubs have also scored 24 runs on Brault in this interval. If they’re successful against Brault at the plate again, they might not need to worry about the bullpen blowing a lead.
Lester has allowed 23 runs into the Pirates, but with a lot more plate appearances than the Cubs have experienced against Brault. The Bucs are hitting against .255 against Lester from 231 at-bats. They’re hitting only .242 against lefties around the season rather than .269 versus right-handed pitching.
The Cubs enter Saturday to some four-game losing streak with declines in six of their last seven matches, all of which have come to the street. How much more pathetic can it get to the Cubs? I think that they find it to avoid more embarrassment and prevent collapsing on Saturday behind Lester. The Cubs probably get back on course for the second in Pittsburgh in this one.
