Solheim Cup: Stacy Lewis ruled out with back injury and replaced by Ally McDonald

After Stacy Lewis was ruled out with a back injury, team USA were forced into a late change with their Solheim Cup team.
After aggravating her problem during training on Monday afternoon, has been substituted by Ally McDonald.
The 34-year-old was needing treatment for the accident after it warms up during the Cambia Portland Classic and, though she was passed fit to take her spot the disease returned to the day of practice.
Lewis, who had been set to make her fifth Solheim Cup appearance, was observed while being consoled by Inkster and a number of her team-mates, and she will remain to encourage her team.
“Stacy is among the fiercest competitors I have ever met. I understand this was a remarkably difficult decision for her, however, she has the group’s best interests in mind,” said Inkster.
“Stacy will stay with Team USA within the following week and will still be an incredible asset for our team. But when I had to go for an alternative, I understood Ally will have the ability to measure up to the challenge. She’s got a mind but a spirit. I know she’ll bring her very best to Team USA.”
An emotional Lewis added:”I’m extremely disappointed to not be able to play. I’m a competitor and I want to play , past week, but I had a back injury flare up. I have done everything I could do within the week to be prepared to perform .
“For my health and what I feel is in the best interest of the group, I decided to take myself out. I will have a different role with the team and will do whatever I could to help Team USA attract the Cup home.”
McDonald had been on standby at Gleneagles as the first alternate, and she will become the first time Solheim Cup rookie on the team.
“I didn’t need to make the team in this manner, but if Juli told me what was going on with Stacy, I was ready to step into role, if that was being here and being part of this experience or being prepared to tee it up,” explained McDonald.
“It was only emotionally preparing for either situation. I’m obviously quite excited to play. This is a goal of mine to play with on this team.”
The late change is comparable to that of Europe from the competition two years back, when vice-captain Catriona Matthew needed to step into as a participant when Suzann Pettersen was ruled out with a back issue.
