It is the many time that is happiest of the year, right? The holidays are ideal for catching up with friends and until you physically can’t anymore. As being a school that is high you need to also plan the barrage of questions you will likely face regarding the future college plans. Do not let these concerns catch you by surprise. Read on to find the types out of concerns friends and families love to ask over the vacations.
1. Exactly How are those college applications coming along? Are you currently all done?
Hopefully, your response is a yes that are relieved! We always recommend that students complete their apps before the holiday season to ensure they can in fact enjoy their break. But never fret if you are not done just yet. The most important thing is in before the deadline that you turn them.
2. What colleges have you been applying to? Exactly why aren’t you applying to xyz school?
School pride is a great thing, but don’t ever let some body force you into signing up to a college simply because they went there (also Uncle Tim). Colleges are available in all sizes and locations, and one size positively does maybe not fit all. Research your facts, and stick to an inventory that produces sense for you personally.
3. Exactly what are you going to study?
The answer that is short you don’t know yet. Even in the event that you’ve been admitted currently the odds are fairly likely which you will alter your brain, maybe even before starting college. Like the question that is previous friends and family relations want to weigh in when it comes to list of positive actions with your life. While advice are great, be certain to discover the fit that is best for you.
4. Exactly what are you going to complete with that degree?
Keeping using the theme that relatives and buddies always thinking they know best, you should never allow someone make you feel bad in what you need to pursue. Aren’t getting me wrong, it’s important to really have a have a plan and set goals, you will probably be more successful you actually enjoy if you pursue something.
5. Did you hear so and so got in early to…?
This is 2015. With social networking, everybody typically knows one another’s college decisions minutes after their peers are notified. Don’t let college decisions get shmoop.pro under the skin or cause a riff in the middle of your friends. Classmates will inevitably boast or gloat, but don’t allow it result in to lose your cool.
Mythbuster: i am interested in Business, but i am using as Undecided because that can give me a better shot at Admission
The Myth: It is easier to get in as undecided than a major in a school that is professional.
The Verdict: Not at USC.
Of all the myths we’ll talk about this year, I’m pretty sure this is the one I face the many as an admission professional. I’ve lost count of how many students come up to me after an event or high school visit and say something like, ‘The opportunities within the Marshall class of Business are perfect. I want to learn business at USC, but i am thinking of using as undecided since Marshall is super competitive.’
Yes, Marshall is competitive. So are engineering, communication, music, undecided, and every major at USC. The overall admission procedure is highly selective, and students won’t be at an advantage if they apply undecided. In fact, it is in students’s best interest to apply for their major of choice when they know very well what they want to study in college. Pupils at USC get started within their major right away and are able to take advantage of their system’s resources in their very semester that is first campus.
The USC Writing Supplement on the Common Application allows students to list a first and second choice major. Students will always be considered for their top choice first, and if your student is not found a fit for that major, they will be viewed for their second choice major as well as undecided. We evaluate a pupil’s complement all appropriate options when applications that are reviewing.
Some majors do like to see preparation and fit for major. As an example, a student applying to business needs four years of strong school math that is high. Engineering and science applicants needs to have four years of strong math and science. This does not make admission to these majors any harder or easier for a student that is particular it just means we are searching for additional techniques a student will likely be a fit for their applied major. The six visual and performing art schools are looking for musicians that are ready and wanting to expand their existing talents. The quantity of applicants for these art programs combined with the subjective review process may make admission into the art programs competitive, but it wouldn’t be any easier for a student to get into a skill system at a later time if they originally were admitted to USC as another major.
I think the reason why this conversation also occurs is because a student actually desires to enter into USC and will do whatever needs doing to increase their opportunities. My advice is to the main that interests you. It’ll enable you to answer our concerns with passion and excitement, which can only help us determine your fit for your major and for USC.
