The Tennessee Titans employed a first-round selection on defensive handle Jeffery Simmons understanding he might not have the ability to play this season after tearing an ACL in February.
Speaking to the media for the first time since the draft,” Simmons said Tuesday following Titans minicamp practice that he’s not rushing the process, even if this means missing the entire 2019 campaign.

“I’m not rushing anything,” Simmons explained, via The Tennessean. “If I do not play this season, I’m fine with it, but my aim is to get fit on my period and on this group’s time. There’s no time limit and when I can come back. Every day that I come to work, I’m placing my mindset, you know,’I wish to get back now.’ That’s how I come to work everyday and try to get better.”
Simmons was estimated to go higher than the No. 19 spot where he landed with Tennessee before the ACL tear happened while training. If everything goes right, the standard deadline for retrieval from such an injury would make a return potential at the close of the season. The Titans could also opt to offer him an entire year to rehab.
The DT has yet to start jogging and is not sure when he will be able to begin that portion of the rehabilitation procedure.
The Titans made the Simmons selection with a mind on the future. Pairing the Mississippi State product with perennially underrated Jurrell Casey could give Tennessee a catastrophic duo. Finally. For now, the newcomer is not pushing the procedure.
