Royal Line delivers in September

When giving trainer John Gosden successes in the Sun Racing September Stakes at Kempton on Saturday, royal Line got his career back on course.
Having sent out Arc winner Permit to maintain the Group Three contest on her seasonal recurrence 12 months past, that the Newmarket coach saw the prize head his way once again because the son of Dubawi made his first start.
Until crossing the line a length and a quarter clear of Mootasadir to claim his first victory, the 6-1 shot burst to hit the front inside the last furlong of the trophy.
Rab Havlin, winning jockey, said:”We understand he’s a little bit of course, but he’s floor dependant. I was worried they were moving down the back straight when everyone had slotted into their places.
“I was glad I just had a few horses . He has caught a bit flat-footed when I pressed him, but he ended off great. We can have an preparation for the end of this season.
“It had been his first time around the all-weather – he had been entered at Chester a week but we did not believe the rain would come in time, therefore we made a decision to come here.”
Though Royal Line holds Group One entries in both the Comer Group International Irish St Leger at the Curragh and the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup in Ascot, Havlin is keen to remain at a distance and a halfdozen.
He added:”He’s entered in a few things at the back end because he’s a different horse on soft ground.
“I think that a mile and a half on soft earth is what he desires, as when it’s soft ground that they have to stay very firmly.”
