Manchester City moved to the top of the Barclays FA Womens Super League because they stretched their 100 per cent start to the year with a 3-0 home win over Birmingham.
After Janine Beckie had struck quite wide of the Birmingham goal and also been thwarted by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, the corner resulting from the latter attempt saw the ball come to Keira Walsh, whose shot outside the box went via a deflection to provide the hosts a 27th-minute lead.
Lauren Hemp came close to doubling their advantage two minutes following the breakup with an effort that hit the pole, since Tessa Wullaert made a close-range finish after Beckies cross, and a moment later it was 2-0.
Beckie was denied by the other Hampton save and Wullaert hit the post moments later.
Substitute Lee inserted the third in the 80th minute, turning right-footed as she and a Hemp delivery connected in the left
With four wins from as many matches – all of which have been with clean sheets – the staff of Nick Cushing are currently three points clear of Arsenal, who are on Sunday in third-placed Chelsea.
Birmingham remain second-bottom, with no goals and no issues.
