Liverpool’s specialist throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark says Jurgen Klopp’s innovative approach to management will be helping build”something special” in Anfield.
Klopp made headlines last year when he and his training team added Gronnemark together midway through the campaign.
The Dane, who holds the world record for the maximum throw-in at 51.33m, had a direct impact on the method of the club full-backs – most notably Joe Gomez.
Liverpool went on to claim the sixth European Cup that season and Gronnemark isn’t surprised to find the Reds.
“Jurgen is a innovator,” Gronnemark told The Athletic. “He is a leader who claims that he doesn’t understand everything and is ready to listen to individuals whenever they have knowledge to select the team forward.
“If you’ve got a leader who wants total control and believes that he knows best about what then that will affect your employees.
“Although you are one of the best clubs in the world, it does not mean you have to do precisely the same thing because you did yesterday. When you meet Jurgen you truly feel just as though you’re speaking with a buddy. He listens a lot.
“To let a man into the club that was pretty much unknown in England and convey ‘we need all of your knowledge to put it in the training programme’, which shows a lot of trust and excellent leadership.
“He is great at getting the best out of individuals. It is a whole lot more egotistical in clubs. In Liverpool, there’s a pride among the gamers and the team. They all feel part of something specific.
“Sometimes I will stop and look at the players facing me and think,’Oh, that is crazy’. I’m working in a club who won the Champions League.
“Initially, I had a contract to the first half of last season then it was extended for the next half and I have one for the entire season.
“I really don’t think many folks are laughing now. I think most people in soccer seem on it and say’Okay, there has to be something inside’.”
