Danielle van de Donk winner gave Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
The defending winners finally discovered the breakthrough although united had appeared to hold on for their first stage since being promoted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

United had a chance to open the scoring in the 15th minute when Jessica Sigsworth’s cross picked out Ella Toone six yards from goal but she could not direct her header.
Arsenal took their time getting moving, and celebrity striker Vivianne Miedema was particularly quiet, but she sprang into existence.
United goalkeeper Mary Earps was equal to this challenge rescuing Miedema’s follow-up effort with her feet and keeping the header of the Dutchwoman out.
Arsenal began the second half as they finished the first but, they made one of the best chances of the game when United did break the shackles.
Jane Ross was one-on-one with Manuela Zinsberger but also the’keeper saved well.
Three minutes after Earps produced another fine save to deny Kim Little and it was.
When Hayley Ladd fired wide united had one last opportunity but the traffic, and mostly Miedema, laid siege to Earps’ goal.
Miedema led wide volleyed over, hit a pole and watched you cleared off the line until replacement Van de Donk applied the final touch as the ball ricocheted around the goalmouth.
